Through its French subsidiary, LEBRUN designed and delivered its first mobile air conditioning units to AIRBUS in the late seventies.

This first wave of deliveries was related to the apparition and increasing presence of electronic components inside airplanes. When the assembly lines for A.T.R. and A 300 were launched by the European airplane manufacturer, the need for air conditioning systems became quickly essential in order to maintain homogeneous temperatures inside the electronic compartment of their planes.

In the late nineties, LEBRUN was again involved in the mobile air conditioning business, but this time for a project dedicated to the SABCA. At that time, LEBRUN was asked to study the cooling of F16 cockpits during the experiments carried out by the maintenance department in their workshops. This project never saw the light of day, but in the same period of time, the units sold at AIRBUS twenty years earlier were close to reach the end of their life cycle. LEBRUN was then contacted by the airplane manufacturer to renew its existing product range and extend it to its new A 340 assembly lines.

In collaboration with AIRBUS, we incorporated in this new range of air conditioning units all the skills we had acquired in the refrigeration field these last few years. The study of this new project was based on:

  • A refrigeration study,
  • An electrical study involving the introduction of a centralized control mechanism,
  • An air processing study, directly emanating from our different projects in that field,
  • A mechanical study focused on the frame construction,
  • A noise assessment study that we also performed internally.

Between the completion of the new prototype in May 2000 and the manufacturing of today's product line, many technical developments saw the light of day, which led to important improvements (mainly on the performance level and on the user and maintenance sides).

From a technical point of view, the cooling and the electrical parts evolved the most. The layout of the different components was adapted to the needs of maintenance technicians and users. The manufacturing process was also optimized in order to reduce the costs and to be able to offer a competitive product on the market.

Further to these improvements and to the dialogue that we established with the different types of users, we are now proposing mobile preconditioned air units that fully meet the needs of our customers in terms of temperature, pressure, control, maneuverability, filtration, compactness, reliability and noise (an essential factor in airports).
